Two charged in IHOP shooting that injured Marion County deputy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two men have been charged in connection with the shooting at an Indianapolis IHOP that injured a Marion County Sheriff's deputy over the weekend. 

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says Sgt. David Clemmons and Deputy Entwan Norris were attempting to stop the robbery at the IHOP near 38th Street and Shore Drive when Clemmons was shot in the leg. 

Clemmons was treated at IU Methodist Hospital and was released Saturday morning.  

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has named Brandon Nickens as the person who shot Deputy Clemmons. Nickens is charged with attempted murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. 

Javentay Chapman has also been charged with attempted robbery resulting in bodily injury and battery by means of a deadly weapon in connection with the robbery.

12:55 – 911 call from inside the business reporting someone shot

12:57 – Incident Command Established by Speedway Police
12:57 – Speedway Officer advises Deputy is awake and breathing and indicates location of injury
12:58 – Staff notifications are made via page
01:00 – Additional 911 caller at nearby business. Advises heard shots outside and then went inside business. Line disconnected.
01:01 – Officer (Deputy) being transported to hospital
01:03 – One person detained at nearby business
01:03 – CIRT & Homicide team responding
