INDIANAPOLIS -- A man who's accused of trying to kill his 4 and 5-year-old children by burning down their apartment was arrested on Indianapolis' east side Friday morning.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Marshals took Edward Holmes II, 35, into custody at 21st and Arlington around 11:30 a.m.

U.S. Marshals in Seattle requested the help of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force to find Holmes after learning he fled to Indianapolis, according to Q13Fox television. He used to live in Indy.

Prosecutors charged Holmes with first degree arson with a domestic violence enhancement after investigators say he set a fire inthe apartment building where his ex-girlfriend lives with his children on October 3.

According to court documents, Holmes cut the gas line to his ex-girlfriend's car, filled up a bottle with that gas and used it to start the fire.

Investigators describe what they saw on video surveillance from the apartment building:

"He comes in and out of view until 08:28:51 when a large ball of fire is observed emitting from the closet outside Unit 1. The person is observed running up the stairs and out the front door as the fireball comes out into the stairwell. He runs out of the building, carrying the water bottle, and away from the apartment toward the northwest."

A still picture from the video was shown to Holmes' ex-girlfriend and she identified him, according to court documents.

Holmes, 35, is currently in the Marion County Jail and will be transferred back to Washington state.
