GREENFIELD, Ind. -- A Hancock County couple is charged with neglect after their young children were found wandering the streets near their home on multiple occasions.
Police were called to the area of Streamside Drive in Greenfield on October 16 after neighbors picked up a young boy who was outside alone and without a jacket.
According to court documents, the responding officer met with the neighbor who said she found the child pushing himself on a toy down the sidewalk with no adult supervision. The temperature that day was in the 40s and the child was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, shorts and shoes but no jacket.
Another officer familiar with the child was able to direct police to the child’s parents, Carissa Abraham, 30, and Isaac Abraham, 29 at their home on Runnymede Road.
The parents told police that the young boy wakes up early sometimes and gets dressed before going out – usually to the park. They said they were unable to keep the child locked in the home when they are sleeping.
Court documents showed at least two other incidents in July and September where the youngest child, 2, was out wandering the streets “for hours” until a neighbor took the child home.
A 2-year-old, 3-year-old and 9-year-old living in the home were all taken into custody by the Department of Child Services.
Both Carissa and Isaac had active warrants for neglect of a dependent and were taken into custody by police.
