War vet dies after he and his girlfriend were struck by a pickup in hit-and-run

INDIANAPOLIS -- A veteran of the war in Afghanistan died after he and his girlfriend were struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run early Saturday morning on Indianapolis' southeast side. 

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m., on Southeastern Avenue, near Prospect Street.

Sgt. Joseph Nordstrom, 30, officially passed away Monday morning after being pronounced brain dead on Saturday.

His girlfriend, Angela Ruhlig, is expected to be OK,

Police describe the suspect vehicle as an Arizona Beige or Gold Ford F-150 pickup, made between 2004 and 2008.

Investigators say there should be damage to the front passenger side of the truck, including damage to the headlight.
