MUNCIE, Ind. -- A family is asking for help in finding whoever is responsible for striking and killing a man in Muncie, Indiana in August.

Jimmie Dunsmore was struck while riding his moped to a friend's house Aug. 31 near the intersection of 26th and Grant streets.

Witnesses told police a young woman in a dark Dodge Durango hit him then took off, leaving him for dead.

Jimmie's cousin, Russell Dunsmore, is asking for help and justice for his family.

"He didn't deserve to have this happen to him," Russell said. "Somebody has gotta know who she is."

David Welter had been friends with Jimmie for eight years. He was headed to Welter's house on the day of the crash.

"You could call him up any time of the day and night and he'd be there for you," Welter said. "I passed him over on Madison honked and waved at him. On my way home from cashing my check, I saw his moped out here busted up on the street."

After weeks of fighting the injuries, Jimmie died.

"I'm really gonna miss him," Welter said. "I hope that somebody comes forward."

If you have any information about what happened to Jimmie, call Muncie police at 765-747-4838.
